As part of its Digital Life in 2025 research project, the organisation canvassed 1,642 experts on the question of whether by 2025, a major cyber attack will have “caused widespread harm to a nation’s security and capacity to defend itself and its people”. It found 61% of respondents agreeing with the question, while 39% disagreed. Among those who agreed, there were four themes. First, that internet-connected systems – from defence, energy, banking and finance to transportation – are “inviting targets” for cybercriminals.
