As people continue to freak out over ebola, despite declines in new cases across Africa, a new and old enemy presents itself. Bubonic plague; while it is easy to believe it is of little threat due to 500 years since a huge outbreak, one must remember several things. Faith in science and interest in learning any has declined epidemically, which (science) is largely (besides carriers of cystic fibrosis) what saved Europe some 500+ years ago. In addition, when plague develops into the pneumonic form, it becomes nearly as transmissible as influenza. Ah, but what do I know, I am just a damned scientist. Maybe we should just quit doing our jobs and see how the rest of you fare.
