He made his World Cup debut in 2007 during the match between Ireland and Namibia. He also officiated (as touch judge or television match official) during three games in the 2009 Six Nations Championship.[2] He refereed his first Six Nations match in 2010.[3] Performance During the crucial Rugby Championship game at Edenpark, New Zealand on 14 September 2013 between the All Blacks and the Springboks, Poite displayed his inferior knowledge of the game on a very public stage. In the 16th minute of the game, Poite yellow-carded the Springbok hooker Bismarck du Plessis after a perfectly legal tackle on All Black flyhalf Dan Carter. Minutes later, after awarding a free kick to the All Blacks, he failed to play advantage to Springbok winger Bryan Habana for storming up and tackling the All Black player trying to take the free kick. It is general knowledge among rugby fans all over the world that, upon taking a free kick, the play is alive as soon as the player taking the free kick starts to move. Poite also penalized the Springboks for various inexplicable "mistakes". This strengthened the belief that the IRB instructs referees to protect the All Blacks and ensure their winning ways, especially against the Springboks. In the 42nd minute of the game, Poite made his biggest professional blunder to date. He red-carded Bismarck du Plessis after Du Plessis, in a perfectly legal move, protected himself from being tackled. Poite has since been declared a "simpel doos" in South Africa, and rumors are doing the round that he will be bliksemed if he ever sets foot on South African soil.
