As promised, here are the maps of the third site alternative: Site I. The station would be located at the current Park & Ride lot on Westville Road while the layover yard would be in northern-most Haverhill where Plaistow, Atkinson and Haverhill meet. Site I is not being recommended by the NHDOT & HDR, for the following reasons: 1. The separation of the layover from the station by over one mile “creates operational issues and from the MBTA’s perspective, it increases costs and is less desirable [read that as ‘not out of Haverhill’] than the other two alternatives”. 2. The layover yard will significantly impact “environmental or archeological resources” on the site. [Curiously, this is not mentioned for Site II at Joann Drive where there are 1.5 acres of wetlands.] 3. Layover site creates “issues for a NH lead project to design and construct the facility”. 4. Of the three alternative sites, the station site “has the lowest potential to accommodate future adjacent transit-oriented development”. 5. Westville Rd. would need to be shifted south and realigned. Two other problems, not mentioned in the recommendation are: 1. Two businesses would be acquired: Freedom Tire and the Auto Body shop in the same building. Frontage on Westville Rd. would be taken from Blinn’s Auto Body and the condo complex across the road. 2. 289 residences in Plaistow and Atkinson are within ½ mile of the layover. 234 residences are within ½ mile of the station. Pollard School is within 1500 feet of the station. Do you want a layover and station in these locations?
