As rescuers we work VERY hard to STOP the overpopulation of animals. That is why we have our rescue animals either fixed BEFORE they are adopted OR we have the adopter PAY for the Spay/Neuter upfront (adoption fee) and sign a Spay/Neuter Contract at the time of adoption and we Follow-Up to make sure the Spay/Neuter is done when the Contract signed states it will be done, with us, as the rescuer, paying for the Spay/Neuter. I am VERY upset to hear that a local rescue adopted out a brother/sister pair to someone who then did NOT get either one of them fixed in time to avoid a litter being born. Not only that, but the adopter STILL didnt have the male fixed while the mom was pregnant or while she was nursing, because she then ended up with litter #2!!! Id like to know why the rescue allowed this to happen!! 2 new litters born because of 2 cats YOU adopted out. Did you charge an adoption fee and then not pay for the spay/neuter?? Did you not follow up?? Id really like an explanation of how a 501(c)3 can get away with this sort of Oversight, Indifference, thoughtlessness, carelessness etc. This is what rescues fight against!! The needless birth of unwanted kittens when thousands are already dying in the streets and being killed in shelters daily!!!
