As some of you may know, I am one of the many students at UT Austin that are now harmed by the schools selfish new rule stating that once you have completed FOUR semesters you are no longer permitted to change your major without undergoing a petition process (which all advisors that I have spoken to have said will be extremely difficult to pass through). This rule was silently pushed through and has caused great concern amongst those who have been made aware of it. Its purpose is to FORCE students to graduate in four or less years. It completely disables people who change their mind about what they want to do (is college not the place we are sent to find who we are and what we want to be?) to successfully move on towards another career path. With this, I URGE students and anyone else to write pieces small or large on how this effects you or someone around you. The professor that asked me to do so, due to my own standing, is attempting to compile documentation on how this in order to submit it to the one responsible for this change to show how greatly it disables students. Your name WILL be stripped from the paper when submitted. Please help me stand up for myself and all others who are now forced to waste our lives being forced to either finish a degree we are not happy with or withdraw from The University of Texas at Austin. #FOURyearsorBUST #UTAustin #UTEXAS #deadenddegree #fouryearrule
