As the allies advanced through Europe during WW2, Germany prisoners war were used to bury hundreds of thousands of casualties, from war, disease and starvation. Photographs of them doing this work were taken. After the war these photographs were shown worldwide and up to the present day as showing victims of the Jewish Holocaust. Some photographs taken at allied interment camps were also used for the same purpose.
