As the cyclo-cross kicks off a strong number of Welland Valley CC riders contested Round 3 of the Notts and Derby League at Markeaton Park. With ground conditions firm, the pace of all the races was frenetic as over 500 competitors pinned on a race number. In the Under 9’s race Whizz Kid George Timms finished 4th with Dominic Switzer 8th, just ahead of Fay Garner 12th & 1st Girl. Matt Garner was the soul Whizz Kid in the Under 12’s race. Racing against much older riders Matt produced a strong performance finishing 16th. His older sister Amy was victorious in the Under 16’s race as she rode to fine victory showing great early season form. Lee Edmonds endured a torrid season last year after suffering an injury. This year he is a man on a mission and showed he is fast returning to be a force in cyclo-cross with a fine 12th today.
