As the mother of two children whos birth father was from the Middle East, Im going to say this clearly. Muslim is not a synonym for terrorist any more than Christian is for zealot. Stop using the terms in tandem. You didnt tar all Catholics with the IRA and Sinn Fein is now a legitimate political party. Trust me I lived through IRA bombs in London, it wasnt fun. Yet the IRA was funded by American citizens with few if any repercussions. Yes, its the same damn thing. Im tired of when we speak out against disproportionate use of force against the people of Palestine that we risk being called anti-Semitic. Guess what, I am a Semite and my kids are too. Arabs are Semites. I can be against extreme use of force and not be anti-Jew. (Id be hating on my own DNA) I can state with firm clarity that by bombing civilians you are creating the terrorists you fear IN ANY COUNTRY. For Gods sake in the US the militarization of our own police force ups the ante in our own communities. If you dont like name calling against one ethnic group then dont do it to any of them. My kids and their family members are not terrorists and we do take it personally when you make sweeping statements. If you take offense go ahead and argue with me, I dare you. Better to just unfriend me. Because I HAVE lived in the Middle East and you know what? I was treated with acceptance, love & kindness by most people and sure there were some jerks - Just like here.
