As we approach the anniversary of internment we would like to - TopicsExpress

As we approach the anniversary of internment we would like to state our opinion on internment bonfires over the past few weeks we have seen our young people collecting for these bonfires in parts of Belfast, these bonfires bring misery to local people in these areas. We in the Belfast 32csm have ourselves been involved with residents and the youths involved in collecting for these bonfires to try to explain to them that these bonfires attract anti-social elements and people that have no idea about internment, other groups and community activists have done the same. We have seen the problems in the new lodge recently were residents have been tormented on a nightly basis, any bonfires that are planned should have the consent of the residents who live close to these fires. We have heard from some of these young people that they have nothing much to do and collecting for these fires is a way of combating boredom in the summer months and we understand that this might be the case, we would ask our youth to get behind the local activities this coming weekend to commemorate internment.
