As we head into another NFL season, the politically motivated - TopicsExpress

As we head into another NFL season, the politically motivated clamor over the Washington Redskins name once again ratchets up. Recently, Maryland’s Dem Governor Martin O’Malley (who has been inching toward a possible presidential run) said it was probably time for the team to drop the name “Redskins”. O’Malley has added his voice to a chorus on the indignant Left, claiming the name is offensive, racist, insensitive…and all that. But as pro football moves toward opening day 2014, so does high school football. And in Arizona, there’s a high school whose students proudly support the name “Redskins” for their sports teams. (See image associated with this post.) Red Mesa High is a public school located on the Navajo Reservation, a school with a nearly 100% Navajo student population. So you’d think (if one is allowed to actually think about such things) that if Redskins is indeed an offensive term, this school would have long ago dropped the name. Yet, they are preparing to head into another season of Red Mesa Redskins football. On the school’s website, you find this Mission Statement: “To provide quality education for successful interaction in the changing technological world while enhancing Navajo culture”. Check it out: the school attended almost exclusively by Navajo students is dedicated to “enhancing Navajo culture”…and it STILL MAINTAINS THE NAME REDSKINS. All I can say about this is…Go, Redskins…no matter where you are!
