As we join our South African brothers and sisters in praying for Nelson Mandela, some of us from Cameroon will be doing some retrospection on the role and value of Papa Madiba on our continent, and similarly, on our country Cameroon. Mandela is not only lauded for his fight against the calamitous apartheid regime, but also for his steadfast probity in the dungeon of poverty and suffering, even though he had dozens of opportunities to enrich himself. Madiba despised himself for the glory of South Africa, and spent more than 25 years in prison for an equal South Africa. Meanwhile, if our societies really value Mandela as an African icon, as an epitome of what Africans desire in their leaders, where are his values in us, who we no longer differentiate vice from virtue? Moreover, do we see Mandela as a leadership model, or merely as a man, who made the Blackman to be internationally respected? To continue reading please visit my blog at africa-china.blogspot/
