As we traversed the Wingate Sandstone formations this afternoon, I was struck with awe of the geologic forces that have been shaping the planet for billions of years. What was the world like when this formation was laid down? What great forces put this simple layer of dirt in among all the other layers of dirt and then pushed them up just so that we could see them? Within the formation I saw dinosaur footprints and ancient indian pictographs to name a few. We are arrogant to believe that our existence is about the same as our predecessors, be they 2000 years ago or 20 million years ago. Or that this planet was created for our pathetic brief tour of life. Our place on the sphere is built on the shoulders of giants. We are but parasites. This planet has seen some great things and today, I got to see the echo from much of the world as it was long before my brief existence. I am humbled, yet again.
