Ashley and I are watching Frozen again. (Cause its our favorite.) While I have some criticisms of the film, I think overall, its a great film for kids. Especially young girls. I could have lengthily discussions picking this film apart and giving my reasons why. I know theres been some criticisms in some feminist circles of giving the film a feminist label, but as a woman who actively identifies as a feminist, Id like to counter those criticisms. Heres one example of many. Consent. Its a biggie and in our culture its unfortunately not taught to girls and more importantly, not many boys either. In so many fairy tales and childrens films, we are routinely given bad examples of how its ok for womens right to autonomy and agency is removed because, Prince Charming is allowed to break those rules I guess. But this scene is pretty great. I made it a point to tell Ashley why too.
