Asia Business Forum December 9 Summit Meetings in Beijing Global summit meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as well as direct bilateral summits between the United States and China, China and Japan, and China and Korea took place all in Beijing during the week of November 10. At this Asia Business Forum, our panel of experts will analyze and dissect the results of these meetings in Beijing and take a look at what opportunities they might hold for Washington state businesses. Plus, our news update segment will cover Japan, and gift giveaways will be held at the end of the Forum to celebrate the successful conclusion of our 3rd year. Panelists: ●Michael Michalak, former U.S. Ambassador for APEC and former Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. In his over 30 years of service with the U.S. Department of State, Mr. Michalak also worked in Hanoi, Beijing, Sydney and Islamabad. ●Darryl Johnson, former U.S. Ambassador to Thailand. Mr. Johnson’s 40-year career in the Foreign Service included posts in Mumbai, Hong Kong, Beijing and Taipei. ●David Reid, professor of Global Business Strategy, Seattle University. Dr. Reid has worked in 30 countries and in the last 15 years, he has interviewed more than 500 CEOs and other senior officers in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia, and more than 150 CEOs in China. ●Robert Kapp, former president of US-China Business Council in D.C. and Beijing as well as the Washington Council on International Trade in Seattle. Dr. Kapp is a longtime China specialist with extensive U.S. and Chinese networks. ●Monica Whaley, president of the National Center for APEC, which is the only U.S. business association focused on facilitating private sector engagement in the APEC organization to advance U.S. private sector priorities in APEC’s discussions on trade and economic issues.
