(Asian Admin) We want to recognize and congratulate one of our guest contributors. Kevin E Lake is an author and an Iraq War veteran and he shares many of the articles he writes in regard to the war against radical ideology with us that he publishes through several media outlets. It seems Kevin has been awarded one of the highest awards in online media, a Yahoo Content of the Year award for 2013 for a piece he wrote on women in combat, taking part in freeing their female counterparts in the Muslim world. This is the announcement from Kevins page and the piece that won. Congratulations, Kevin! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- *I often thank you, my readers, for taking the time to read what I write, and another thank you is in order now. It seems Ive been awarded one of the highest annual awards in online publishing, a Yahoo Content of the Year Award for 2013. Youll imagine my shock, and how hard it was to keep it a secret when I received this email a few days ago: --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I’m writing with some good news: We’ve selected you as a Content of the Year winner for 2013! We loved your piece on women in combat. Our judging panel agreed that it exemplifies the firsthand knowledge and clear, impactful original angle that we love to see in content that provides a personal angle on headline news. Please don’t share this exciting news with others ahead of our official announcement.... Congratulations once again on this achievement. Only five out of hundreds of thousands of pieces of content earned a Content of the Year award, one of the highest honors our platform offers. Sincerely, Jelena Woehr Community & Communications Manager Yahoo! Contributor Network 210 University Blvd Suite 300 Denver CO 80206 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Folks, as you know, I work long and hard- daily and nightly- and its not as much an award like this that means so much, though I consider it an honor to have won, but its your little messages of encouragement you send; those among you who tell me that something I wrote, be it a short story, a media article, or one of my novels, touched you in a very deep way. It lets me know that the long days and nights are worth it. Again, from the bottom of my soul, I thank each and every one of you, and lets continue moving forward together! Kevin E Lake Author/Iraq War Veteran ************************************************* From the Winners Announcement Another hot topic in 2013: Female soldiers in combat roles. Kevin E. Lake, an Iraq veteran, had a unique, first-person perspective on this subject, which he chose to share on Yahoo Voices. His firsthand stories of serving alongside women will lead anyone, whether military or civilian, to gain a new level of respect for female soldiers and for combat troops in general. Readers love getting a first-person insight into headline news, and Kevins piece is a perfect example. Well-written and at times startling, the article takes you into Kevins memories without verging into the territory of memoir. A strong message of camaraderie rounds the piece out, leaving the reader with a new level of enlightenment as to the role of women in war.
