Aside from the economics not working because of the price of coal internationally, we end up with the highest electricity prices in the region while damaging our country environmentally and contributing to climate change which will bring us more Yolandas/Haiyans. Time to shift, and radically, to renewables. The up-front costs are higher, although we subsidize coal anyway by assuring power producers a high return of investment, but the long-term gains - financially, environmentally - are assured. Just ask any business or household who have chosen to install solar systems in their household and the evidence is incontrovertible.
