Ask people to name the most important things in life, and they are likely to speak of family, friendship, and love. They are likely to speak of justice, human rights, and peace. Or they may speak of the beauty of art and nature. They may speak of science and philosophy. Or they may speak of spiritual growth. Ask people how they actually spend most of their time, and they will invariably speak of making money. But take heart. It will not always be so. In the transition from capitalism to socialism, our priorities will at long last come to align with our activities.
