Asked by a young writer about the qualities that I felt were most important in a young writer’s dealings with the literary world. I didn’t have the heart to tell him that most of those challenges – including rejection and continuous self-doubt - don’t get much easier to handle with age ;-) Otherwise he might just decide to give up right now!
