Assalam Aleykun. It is another Eid-l-Kabir. Alhamdulilah. It gives me great pleasure to rejoice with you and yours as we mark yet another Eid-l-Kabir. Our celebration today is a testimony to Allah’s faithfulness in our lives as it was with Prophet Ibrahim (aleyin salat wa salam) when he was commanded to fulfill his covenant to Allah SWT by sacrificing his only son, Ismail. In His divine wisdom, what Allah SWT demanded of Prophet Ibrahim was not Ismail; it was only a test of Prophet Ibrahim’s piety and devotion to His injunctions; his perseverance was a test of his sanctity to the oath he made to Allah SWT. The piety of Prophet Ibrahim thus become our celebration of the redemption of humanity as signified by Eid-l-Adhah. Being alive to witness this Sallah is not any admission that we are better than those that couldn’t: we are only reveling in His divine blessings. However, Eid-L-Kabir is more significant because it is a reminder of the sacrifice to Allah SWT for the blessing of our living and His faithfulness in our lives. Allah has no use for our rams and our alms but instructively, in the sacrifice is a reminder that we should share with those He has given less and those with nothing; the lesson is in the true love to give freely in order to see others also truly happy. The sacrifice He asked of us isn’t in the celebration but in a deep reflection that indeed He seeks equity among us and between us. Therefore, the most righteous are those that worship Allah faithfully and that extend a hand of help and a hand of hope to the next fellow. Through that, the hopeless can have more reasons to glorify His Majestic Name as much as the rest. Indeed, in His divine injunction is the lesson of true love for each other and for humanity because nothing pleases God than an enduring love amongst us. That is the sacrifice that Allah SWT demands of us all; the humility to see each other as deserving of His mercy even though Allah may not have blessed us all with His mercy at equal measure. Leadership is a greater level of sacrifice because the fates of millions are held in trust. What Allah SWT jealously demands of any leader isn’t the vanity of the office but the honesty of seeing better citizens that glorify His Name through joy in their hearts and importantly, the existence of a mutual respect, an enduring peace and a contagious unity amongst them irrespective of differences in faith, creed, social status and political choices. Islam is a religion that dwells on its core values of peace, love, generosity and prosperity. Therefore, the prerequisite of any leadership is an adherence to equity amongst the people that, in turn, nurtures a better hope and an honest living for them and by them. At the end, a leader has never lived until s/he has done something for the people who can never repay him/her. That is sacrifice. That is the lesson of Eid-l-Kabir. That is the only way to build upon the foundation of love that Kwarans are reputed for. As we celebrate this Season of Sacrifice, I, Gbemisola Rukayat Saraki, on behalf of myself and the entire members of GRS Movement, celebrate with you and yours. I pray that Allah SWT would bless us with the wisdom to pay forward the blessings in our lives to the next fellow and to humanity. BARKA DA SALLAH
