Assuming the below is true, what group(s) forms the way you read? Our minds are situated by our social setting to read a certain way. You are never just reading in general. For example, depending on your belief, you can read the Bible as history or as literature or as a self-help guide. The overall meaning will be different. So, then, what determines your belief? Your experiences with other people who are members of various sorts of social and cultural groups--conservatives, progressives, peace activists, church members, scholars, ethnic groups, family members, the wealthy, the poor, etc. Each group uses various social practices to encourage people to read and think in certain ways (James Paul Gee).
