Astro Design/NHK shown 8k prototype camera last year. NHK has researched this format since 1995 and spentat least $1 billion since then. The spatial resolution is 7680x4320 (~33mb of still picture) in 16:9 mode and 10080 × 4320 (43.5mb) in 21:9 mode. I am pretty sure by then there is NO need for digital still photography as you can just grab a frame and still have incredible resolution. In Japan NHK broadcast is planning trial run of 8k in 2016 and the broadcast service is actually start in 2030. There is no known new digital cinema len that is capable of handling 8k recording. The one shown in the video is actually a Carl Zeiss Distagon. Currently I think the only len to handle it properly is probably the Carl Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4 which is been cited as having above 500 lpm resolving power. And what will pioneer mass 8k adoption just as previous formats? Like it or not, its actually pr0n production, the dirty little secret of the industry... https://vimeo/79844208 .
