At 2am Sunday August 3rd the city of Sinjar was overun by the military forces of the IS (Islamic State) Caliphate. Residents of the city and the surrounding region have been given a choice to join the IS forces or be killed. Minority communities of Christian and Yezidi kurds ran from their homes in the middle of the night in an exodus to their historical refuge on Mt. Sinjar. IS forces surrounded the mountain and have been hunting civilians of all faiths and cultures. It is feared that over 5,000 Yezidi, Christian, Shia, Yarsan and other minorities have been slain. The towns have been ransacked, the houses have been wired with IEDs and most have been structurally ruined. 1,000,000 refugees have reached Erbil, draining the resources of the largest city in Kurdistan. While the US and Allied forces have begun valiant rescue efforts. This may be the largest genocide in modern world history. Saving these people will take a global effort.
