At 7:44pm on Thursday 2/27/14, the LPFD was dispatched to a reported building fire at the Audubon Court Apartments at 2828 Egypt Road. Initial reports from multiple callers indicated heavy fire and smoke coming from a first floor apartment in the C building within the complex. The Lower Providence Police were first on the scene to confirm a working fire, as well as multiple people trapped on the 3rd floor balconies above the involved apartment. Tower 99 was first on the scene and assisted police with the rescue of all residents in the building. Additional crews arrived to encounter heavy fire conditions in the 1st floor apartment. Primary searches of all six apartments in the fire building were negative and the fire was held to the original apartment with virtually no extension to any other unit. The fire was officially placed under control at 9:13pm. There were no injuries sustained to residents or responders at the scene and the American Red Cross was on hand to provide shelter to those affected. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
