At home we have a few rules that started about a year ago when Ethan got curious about life at the tender age of 3. Rule number one is Always respect the girlies. That one is common sense. Especially in a house with 3 girls. :) Number two is Always be Yourself. I want to make sure that he understands that were going to love him no matter what. Dont conform to what society says you should be. He says, Then if I want to be a cow, Ill moo! Rule number three is Always tell the truth. Pretty straight forward. He started being a little creative in bending that one. Rule number four and the last rule of the house so far. The reason for this post/ rant: Never forget where you come from. I tried to tell him that no matter where we live, we come from San Pedro! Were Belizean...and Mommy and the three of them are also British. Embrace both cultures! Be a Caye Limey. Here I am, telling my kids to never forget where he comes from and for a second there, I did! I read shaking my head in scorn about Carnaval and the first couple days happenings. How disgusting it seemed on Facebook. For Years Ive grown to dislike it more and more...and then today happened. It took some maneuvering and motivating from the good wife Marisa Murphy Guerrero for me to fill the old plastic bottle with leftover Spider-Man Room paint and we made our way to town. Inside I kept hoping that my kids would start to act out to give me an excuse to turn the cart around. Nada! Ava insisted we go get painted so I reluctantly took her by the hand and and walked towards front street. Wow! The look in my little girls eyes when she say the Carnaval kids redecorating front street! She stopped a random group and asked, can you paint me please. How soon we forget who we are! Where we come from! Erin De Santiago, Brittney ODaniel Phil Kueber Amy Knox. Thank you too for helping remind me that what we have is here is pretty special. Its by no way perfect. But its special! Through conversation (Phil) or through enthusiastic positive participation (Amy Erin and Brittney) you helped me never forget where Im from! Our traditions. Tho we have to reign them in a little bit because of the evolution of lazy parenting, still remain just that. Our culture! Que viva el carnaval. Lets keep this going. For my kids sake. For our sake. Insert cliche here! Rant over. Good night!
