At least once a week, I go for Thai massage (thanks, Jude, for turning me on to it!). On Sat, I told my gal that I just started PT on the left / bad ankle & foot (Feb sprain). She said she’d leave it alone then, but worked on the right / “good” one (OUCH!). I think she was making a statement. And the statement was – the other leg is bad too, idiot, you just don’t know it yet. Ok, point proven. Recently, I’ve been giving my gal a ride home (after learning she works late and takes the bus home daily, to a fairly ghetto neighborhood). She speaks hardly any English, but we somehow manage to communicate. She’s been opening up a little more each week. Saturday’s message was…my body is just not right. The phrase “not normal” was bandied about (some things are universal). Besides the ankles / feet, she had felt problems in my knees, and used the word “balloon” to describe my shins (possibly calves?) – with said shins / calves also, of course, being “not normal”. She felt that if I would **just stop running for a while**, that she could get me back to “normal” (in an undetermined amount of time). So, on Sat, I decided to do something entirely foreign to me – listen to my body (or at least what someone thinks it’s saying - I am too deaf / stubborn to hear any of it). Running has been such a big part of my life. It was difficult to come to the realization that I am not a runner (and, therefore, also not a triathlete) – right now. I will still keep race / travel commitments (e.g. Ojai, Fontana, Chicago, Vegas, Honolulu) – even if I end up being a mere spectator. Though I may not be a runner at present, I hope that I am other thing/s, which I will be excited to discover! #reinventmyself!
