At least she sat there......in 1955 when the polio vaccine came out my cousin Ann McKay and me were taken to get ours. There were lines that we were in waiting our turn. My Aunt Bessie said that if we didnt cry we would each get $0.50. Remember candy bars were only a nickle in those days. Fifty cents was a whole lot of money to us. Ann got hers (and the 50 cents) then it was my turn....it took a nurse, my father and mother and the doctor to hold me to get the shot (that I never even felt...too busy trying to get away). I had a fight or flight response to anyone coming near me with a shot. I had a fear of needles that stayed with me until I was 17 years old. An old doctor, whos office was directly across the street from where we lived in Daly City, CA (top of the hill as it was referred to) that put me under hypnosis and took the fear of needles somewhat away. I still am apprehensive when I must get a shot, but at least now i can get one.
