At the begining of the 20th century, the Baptist denomination here - TopicsExpress

At the begining of the 20th century, the Baptist denomination here in America was at a crossroads; some leaders of this denomination had gone over to Europe at the invitation of pastors there who were modernists, and adopted a view of Scripture that it was less credible, less literal, and not inerrant and infallible. They deemed themselves enlightened and wanted to help these American pastors to better understand the Bible. When those Baptist ministers returned to the States, they spread these leaven infested beliefs among their peers. There were other pastors who were appalled at the very notions that were spreading, and decided to start a Seperatist Movement: seperate from these false doctrines as well as a renewed commitment to being seperate from the world. Thus the Southern Baptist Convention was created to stand apart from the remaining, apostasizing denomination. Today Calvary Chapel ministries have been likewise sundered, and continues to separate into two distinct camps. Those who desire to remain with the Word of God and the traditional view of Scripture (inerrant, infallible and inspired, wholly sufficient for the spiritual needs of mankind) while others are courting and even marrying emergent and ecumenical belief systems. Paul Smith in this video discusses his many conversations with the late pastor Chuck (his brother) regarding their observations of CC ministries and how certain elements were subverting its intended and original vision for this ministry... It should also be noted that Chuck Smith was just a man, a sinner saved by grace and just as fallible as anyone else. His model for senior and assistant pastor was borrowed from the Moses-Aaron model, and in my opinion was, and is inappropriate for the church of Jesus Christ. This model demonstrates a pyramid-style hierarchy that is not represented in New Testament Scripture, not taught by Jesus Christ Himself in regards to the church, nor mentioned by Paul or any of the other apostles. That being said, I believe in the main, Calvary Chapels origins were genuine, biblical, and in keeping with what God intended for the work of the Gospel and the ministry of the Word as mandated in the Scriptures. We ought to support and keep accountable those pastors still in the CC movement, that they remain true to their calling and keep the ministry of the Word pure from any corruptions and ideas as conceived by the mind of man.
