At the end of the season last year, a Studio Owner friend of mine - TopicsExpress

At the end of the season last year, a Studio Owner friend of mine asked if she could use our I Belong track for her students to dance to this year. Since the stories in the song are so personal to my students, I was hesitant at first but something inside me said the world needs to hear this. So I sent her the track. Today, she sent me this video of her girls dancing to our story all the way up in New York, where her studio is. I think it is pretty cool at the end when the announcer stops the competition to say Thank you for the message. Thats what its truly about. Not trophies or evaluations or costumes or who gets to be in what spot on stage. We dance because the studio is the only place we can truly call home. A place we can walk into and shed the skin of our day no matter how terrible it was to put on this security blanket that we only feel when the music starts and we can close our eyes and soak into our bodies and feel whole again. Dance calls to all sorts of people. These people all have one thing in common. They are passionate about telling a story and expressing themselves through the oldest and truest form of communication known to man. I could have been selfish and kept this song to myself. I could have asked for credit or praise. But that wouldnt make me a real artist. Thats what is getting lost in these lies told on Dance Moms. Art is sharing. Art is telling your story and walking away, so the world can appreciate it and make it their own. My goal in my studio is to make it a safe place where young people can become artists. Im not here to churn out trophy winners, Im not going to scream at my kids in the hopes that it will make them the best dancers, not to move them up every year to the next level to boost their egos or please their parents. These things may mean that my studio is not for everybody and I am perfectly fine with that. I am here to nurture artists, hold their hands for a while, teach them everything I know and then send them out into the world to make a difference. Thanks Kristine Cacciamani for wanting to share our story and for everything you do for your students. Thanks to my dancers for the inspiration and the time you put into this interview and for trusting me to stand beside you on your journey though dance. https://youtube/watch?v=04ozPu2zauA&feature=youtu.be
