At the memorial for David Blair last night we were all reminded of - TopicsExpress

At the memorial for David Blair last night we were all reminded of how much Detroit and the world could use someone like him right now. Then I looked around at all talented and forward thinking people he impacted and realized that, because of him, we ARE people like him. His poetry, music, and community activism was a perpetual motion machine. The work is ongoing so he made sure wed take what he left and keep amplifying it and passing it to each other. In this way, the forces of good never run out of steam. From Blair, I learned that one didnt have to choose between being an artist or active member of a community (or several communities in our case). He never slacked on the creative work but never let that stop him from being a powerful force for good. Only now is the lesson really sinking in completely that there is no artist self, community self, romantic self or family self. Just the self and all the lovely world that surrounds her.
