At the time that i began this page, I thought that an artificial intellect was our greatest hope for introducing sound reasoning in culture and coherent progress to civilisation. now that i more deeply appreciate the sophisticated problem of consciousness, and the means by which we are navigating the obstacles to artificial intelligence, I can now prove that not merely are we making an error to emulate Ray Kurzweils presumptions, but I can affirm that the poor results from SETI may be a result of a horrific astrobiological pattern. I dont mean that a termination event resulted out of malice or consciousness. Rather that a business result occurred. By scanning the neurons of ruthless and cuthroat point1%ers, we will be doing more than replicating a pattern of selfinterested behavior; we will be conjoining it in a machine capable of growth and expansion. By inputting that pattern into a machine capable of intelligence (though not consciousness) we merely extend that pattern which has already treated the biosphere very poorly on thw grounds of self interest and contempt for life. If people whom dominate the world by cultivating their own selfinterest scan and store their patterns of calculation using nanobots etc, the result will eventually prove absolutely terrifying, and predictable.
