Attempts by some members and supporters of the ruling All Peoples - TopicsExpress

Attempts by some members and supporters of the ruling All Peoples Congress Party in Sierra Leone to force President Ernest Koroma to run for a third term contrary to the constitution is nonsense and the President himself must come out and condemn it. Given the level of destruction that the war caused in the country, there is no doubt that getting the country on track is difficult. No one would deny that President Koroma is doing his part to get Sierra Leone on track again. President Kabbah played his part. Today, Koroma, too, is doing his. Some of his supporters would argue that he has done far more than expected. But even if this is true, it does not mean that he must violate the constitution by tweaking or rewriting it in the guise of constitutional review, to extend his stay in power. Instead of forcing the President to do the wrong thing, why not the APC looks within its ranks for an upright and worthy successor to the President! I know there are women and men within the party who would make a perfect successor and leader as good, if not better a president, than Koroma has been. Or do they want us to believe that no one among them is worthy enough? The country’s constitution paves the way for Koroma to become president in the first place. And so respecting that constitution and abiding by its dictates is a mark of good leadership. The President must not be seen to be doing otherwise. He does not need to serve another term to be a good leader. If the APC needs help in naming some worthy people among its ranks, I will be more than willing to name names. Happy Easter.
