Attending the open house at Beth Emanuel Church this evening as we welcome the arrival of the Fugitive Slave Chapel to its new home. The Fugitive Slave Chapel was a destination point for Fugitive Slaves fleeing the horrors of slavery via the Underground Rail Road from the Southern USA. The Fugitives brought many skills with them and had a desire to work hard to make a new life for themselves. They played a major role in the formation of the City of London and the political make up of Canada in general. Thanks to over 530 donors, the 166 year old structure has moved beside the 145 year old structure that eventually replaced it. Now the next phase of the project, working to restore structure as part of Londons heritage can begin.
