Attention Residents and Friends: We are under a Hurricane Watch. In an effort to be proactive and keep our residents informed, we are providing some general guidelines to prepare for a hurricane. Please read the guidelines and stay tuned to your local weather channel for updated information. According to the National Weather Service projections, there is a threat to our area from Tropical Storm Karen. Please be advised that Fairfield Lakes Management has received many questions concerning the responsibility of residents in the event that a hurricane should strike our property. In the interest of continuing to provide excellent service to our residents, we have prepared this notice of responsibilities, which is intended to serve as helpful information and general guidelines. 1. Once a Hurricane Warning has been issued for a particular area, all residents should remove objects that are prone to becoming projectiles, such as deck chairs, potted plants, patio benches, and any other items on the balcony area or patios of your apartment home. Close and lock all windows and sliding doors. 2. All items that are in the breezeways should be removed and placed inside your apartment home. Passageways and exit routes must be kept clear. This includes floor mats. 3. You should stay tuned to your local weather station and be prepared to evacuate should you be instructed to do so by local authorities. Please be sure that you provide the office with the best phone number to reach you at. 4. Be aware that a hurricane may be covered by renter’s insurance. Check with your insurance provider about coverage. 5. In the event that there is damage to any property of Fairfield Lakes caused by hurricane preparations performed by a resident, that damage will be the responsibility of that resident. 6. Any injury to a resident engaged in hurricane preparation is the responsibility of that resident and not that of Fairfield Lakes. 7. Please keep in mind that if power is lost you should have a hurricane kit prepared in advance. This kit should include: • A battery operated flashlight with extra fresh batteries • Non-perishable food (approx. 3 day supply) • Ample supply of required medicines • First Aid kit • Duct tape • A small dry chemical fire extinguisher • Pet food • Hand crank radio • Bottled water (one gallon per person per day) • Manual can opener • Important documents • Extra cash If power is lost turn refrigerator freezer to coldest setting and keep the door closed as much as possible to preserve foods. 8. Should the property lose power you will not have access to the clubhouse, which includes the business center, gym, laundry area and pool. 9. Please contact Gulf Power at 1(800) 225-5797 for electric emergencies. This includes updates on power outage related concerns. We strive to provide all the information we can concerning hurricane preparation. However, it is the responsibility of residents to become aware of the location of other shelters in the area and to protect their own personal belongings. Please monitor the local television and/or radio stations or contact the American Red Cross at (850) 682-3356 for more information on local shelters. Your safety must be your prime concern. No one can guarantee your safety if you remain in the path of the storm. Fairfield Lakes Staff will be engaged in securing the common areas in the event of any hurricane strike and therefore, will be unavailable to assist residents with preparations. Please be aware that the Leasing Office will be closing shortly after a hurricane warning is issued.
