Attention forensicators past and current, poets, and good people. Im sharing this from Nick Allen, brought to my attention by Lydia Nelson: PLEASE READ THIS!!! Yesterday the NSAA (Nebraska School Activities Association) told the Nebraska High School State Champion in Poetry Interpretation that he would need to remove particular poems from his poetry program. This message was given the day before he was to be recorded for a televised broadcast called the Best of the Best which showcases the state champions. The reason the NSAA asked for the removal of these poems? They contain themes of inclusion and acceptance of queer identities. As a high school teacher and forensic coach whose school and team is affiliated with this organization, I find this deeply disturbing. Whether you are involved in speech, or not, live in Nebraska or not -- please take a moment to email the director of the NSAA Rhonda Blanford-Green at [email protected] or call her at 402-489-0386 and let her know this is unacceptable. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE HELP US DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!
