Attorney Gloria Allred held a press conference today with victims of Brandon Marshall. It was a difficult listen. A couple things...shes not suing anyone...she held the pc to bring attention to Roger Goodells and the NFLs inattention to domestic abuse dating back several years. Marshall is now a Chicago Bear. He hasnt tried to hide from his past, but I can certainly understand why he doesnt want to be lumped in with Ray Rice or Adrian Peterson because this is the topic of the day. Marshall claims his problems stem from his mental illness,..something he is in ongoing treatment for and something he is trying to understand. Im not a shrink, but...I know this...he has been a good citizen since arriving in Chicago...he hasnt tried to hide from his past...and hes brought awareness to mental illness (particularly BPD). Hes been a visible and vocal supporter of this...trying to de-stigmatize mental illiness and promote mental health awareness and therapy. Judge him on his violent past, if you like...or judge him on the years since his realization. Either way, its your opinion. In my opinion, its not fair to group Marshall with the recent NFL player transgressions because these guys havent dealt with their pasts. Marshall has. I dont know what the next decade holds for him, but when anyone does something wrong and asks forgiveness, what do we say? Prove that you mean it...show me. He has. Time will tell, but give a guy credit for time hes spent growing up...hes been doing it for a couple of years now. Until he shows me otherwise, I have a lot of respect for the guy.
