Go to floridaplanning.org/conference to view the conference program, read about the exciting speakers and mobile workshops available, and register. After tomorrow, you have to register on-site. (Students can register through August 27th at the regular rate by contacting the Chapter Office). Expand your conference experience by signing up for one of the exciting seminars or mobile workshops - details are in the conference program. But some examples include: • Team Building in A Downsized World (Wednesday, September 3, 1:00 pm-5:00 pm): Explore how to change the DNA of a public organization by creating a vision and mission that extends to all levels of staff. Learn how consulting firms build their practice, what key criteria they believe are used to select consultants and essential skills that private sector planners need to have for success. • Emerging Professionals Workshop (Wednesday, September 3, 10:00 am- 5:30 pm): This workshop will help new professionals (five years of experience or less) hone their career goals and develop the skills and traits that will set them on course to achieve those goals. • Beaches Redevelopment (Thursday, September 4th, 1:30 pm-5:30 pm, 3.5 CM Credit pending): A tour of the City of Jacksonville Beach South Beach Redevelopment District will highlight the pre-Kelo use of Floridas Community Redevelopment Act to tackle problems posted by antiquated subdivision plats. The tour includes a visit to the Atlantic Beach and Neptune Beach Town Center to see their unique approach to revitalization when the commercial district is split by city limits of two jurisdictions. • Sustainable St. Johns River and Regional Water Resources (Thursday, September 4th, 2:00 pm-5:00 pm, 3 CM Credits pending): Get out on the St. Johns River via water taxi and explore methods used to evaluate the quality of water and environment systems; accomplishments made toward sustainability; and tools that can be used by the community, developers, planners and regulators to sustain the viability of the river and water supplies. • Downtown Jacksonville & Springfield Mobile Workshop (Friday, September 5th, 8:00 am -11:30 am, 3.5 CM pending): This tour will highlight the unique history of Jacksonvilles original urban core and suburbs. Participants will have the opportunity to visit and discuss new opportunities for residential infill and redevelopment in the Historic Springfield neighborhood and green/energy efficient design standards and practices. Hotel Reservations Reservations at the Hyatt Regency must be made by 11:59 PM EST on August 12th. The room rate in the block is $134/night for single,double, triple or quad occupancy.
