August 21st will be Eli Setencich Day in Sanger. Eli, a Sanger native, was a much decorated WWII fighter pilot with more than 140 missions over Germany. When he came home after the war he became an iconic columnist for the Fresno Bee. Elis daughter, Amy, graciously let the Herald use the photos. Amy and many of his friends from Sanger and the Bee will attend the August 21 council meeting where he will be honored - and, a memorial service on August 23 at St. Peter the Apostle, Serbian Orthodox Church on First Street in Fresno. Eli brought honor to the City of Sanger with his WWII accomplishments and his fame as newspaper columnist. He was a great example of the Greatest Generation and its appropriate for our town to honor him and pay its respect to a great American and a great resident of the City of Sanger.
