August 9, 2013 Dear fellow human rights advocates, Peace greetings! The recent bombing in Cotabato City has claimed 8 lives and 40 wounded while 13 of these remained in critical condition. This savage and senseless killing of innocent civilians during the month of Ramadhan is beyond imagination given that our city experiences massive displacement caused by flooding. We condemn on the highest term the said carnage. The incident in our city has added up to the long list of bombing incidents in the region in 12 years. In the meta-analysis published by Rappler, an online media outfit, Region 12 has the highest number of bombing incidents across the country with 25 bombing cases killing 125 and wounding 585 persons from year 2000 to 2012. Region 12 covers General Santos, Cotabato City, Kidapawan, Koronadal, and Tacurong, and the provinces of South Cotabato, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani. What is more alarming is that those incidents took place in urban places compare to the war-torn regions in the country which put the public security and safety measures at test despite of the very evident military and police stations in the city. With the mounting violence and bombing incidents in the country we urge the authorities and the Aquino administration to seriously look into the matter, conduct a thorough and in-depth investigation; persecute and convict the perpetrators to serve justice to the victims and survivors of these bombings and other human rights violations. In light of this, we would like to invite you to a “Candle Lighting Prayer to the victims and survivors of the Cotabato bombing on August 10, 2013 at 6:00 in the evening in Sinsuat Avenue fronting Villa Funeral (bombing site) in support to their families in praying, crying and asserting for justice. Anent to this, we are encouraging you to please invite your partners organizations and individuals to be with us as we aim to bring altogether the youth and students, religious groups, professionals, community and public leaders, civil society organizations in this noble endeavor. Thank you very much. pls contact 09359994451 siti, if u want to attend and for queries.......
