August 9, 2014 Thought for the Day: Life is Ministry Every day I meet new people. I love that part of my life. Everybody has a story to tell. I love to hear what they have to say. I feel, if I am doing friendship right, it won’t take long for them to open up and trust me. Obviously, everyone is different and those who have been hurt the most are the most reluctant, well sometimes anyway. Do you realize that this Life is Ministry? So often we associate Ministry with Preaching. That is not even close to the truth. Sure Jesus spoke to small groups and great crowds, so that can be an aspect of Ministry. However true Ministry happens on a day to day basis. It happens at the grocery store, in the workplace, in the classroom and on the street. It doesn’t come from telling people all the things they are doing wrong. It comes from loving them, listening to them, honoring the trust, keeping their confidence, being there for them and making sure they realize that you see them as valuable and more importantly that is how God sees them. Remember the woman at the well? Jesus didn’t tell the women the things she did wrong, He only asked her if she wanted “living” water, the relationship was built quickly and through conversation. Zacchaeus on the other hand was called out of the tree he was in and Jesus went to His home and built their relationship and there are many other stories. Wherever Jesus went, there was Ministry. We have to get out of our western civilization mindset that God operates certain ways, you know after an hour of Praise and Worship, a special song and a wonderfully scripted sermon. Ministry takes place everywhere we go! That may be why He made the Great Commission as simple as “GO”!
