Auraria to build parking garage The Auraria Higher Education Center is building a four-level parking garage at 5th and Walnut streets where the Elm parking lot now exists. Now in the design phase, the 900-space garage will add about 600 campus parking spaces when it is completed in July 2014, according to Blaine Nickeson, Auraria assistant vice president of campus relations/chief of staff. Retail space planned for the garage will enliven the corner of 5th and Larimer, particularly given the proximity of the Auraria West light rail station, Nickeson says. The Elm lot has closed indefinitely as utility work begins in preparation for the garage’s construction. Ginkgo lot permit holders will have access to parking through the Ginkgo gate only (north side of the Administration Building). A portion of lot Elm will reopen prior to fall semester. Parking and Transportation Services has posted signage and encourages customers to use the surrounding parking lots as an alternative
