Austin Update: Its been over 24 hours since he got out of surgery. Last night was rough - Every time I fell asleep he would wake up looking for me or the alarm would go off because his respiratory rate was too low or his heart rate was too high. Hes not bouncing back quite as quickly as I had imagined, but the only surgery I had to compare it to was when he had gotten his biopsy and vas cath implanted. That wasnt nearly as long or as invasive, though. He hadnt really fully woken up until about 4:30pm today. He watched Spongebob for about a half hour, started getting uncomfortable, so the nurse gave him more morphine and he fell back asleep. His eyes are really swollen from the fluids and from laying down for so long. This has been the worst part of treatment, so far. When he does wake up for a second he looks at me with pitiful, swollen eyes and wont talk much. Hes slowly making progress. The nurse removed his bladder catheter and hopefully tomorrow the NG tube can come out. (It wasnt a feeding tube, its a tube to suction out the fluid in his stomach since his bowels are asleep) He hasnt had anything to eat or drink since Wednesday night. Hes hooked up to IV fluids, though.
