Australian Outback Accommodates Battalion-Size, Live-Fire Training Credit: Sgt. Jonathan Wright | Date Taken: 09/04/2013 The Australian Defence Force purchased land in the Northern Territory’s Bradshaw Field Training Area from its Aboriginal owners in 1996 for use as a large, live-fire training range. To prove its effectiveness for a battalion-sized force, Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, Marines of Marine Rotational Force - Darwin and soldiers of 5th Royal Australian Regiment trained as a force of nearly 1,000 troops conducting simultaneous live-fire ranges and assaults.
