Austria Delivers Ultimatum. Threatens War Unless Demands are met. Serbia Dismayed at Demands. On this day, Austria delivered the July Ultimatum to Serbia, a list of demands that Serbia would have to agree to in full to prevent war. There were 10 demands, and some of there were designed to that Serbia would be forced to reject at least one, which would give Austria the chance to declare war. The Kiser of Germany and a significant portion of his government had gone on vacation. With Germany’s unconditional backing, and complete lack of oversight, Austria was attempting to force Serbia into a war. Some historians call the Kiser’s vacation “the worst naval disaster of all time” as he was taking a cruise at the time of Austria’s ultimatum.
