Auto makers cant figure out why millennials arent into gross - TopicsExpress

Auto makers cant figure out why millennials arent into gross consumerism. In my experience (late Gen X, early Y) it has as much to do with student loan debt as it does the fact that new cars dont hold their value. Similarly, housing that once represented stability has become an anchor while the skilled job market remains largely one of temporary workers and close to zero loyalty from employers for their full-time workforce. Why plant roots when you might have to move on tomorrow? The new economy is one of uncertain mobility. If one must work to live, then one must be able to go where the next job is. I know people that commute for hours in a day while I was free to move closer to the office. Of course I had to sign into a lease, but Im still paying less than a mortgage. Of course the commitment of a lease is still outside of my comfort zone. Its not being cheap. Its being realistic. So what arent you buying, and why?
