Autonomy for Torres Straits should include our right to decide what should be allowed within our Torres Strait community from a governance, health, legal & judicial, educational, and social services perspectives. Social determinants should be addressed as to what the people and their community require. The Queensland and Federal governments dont always provide us with the services that are conducive to better health, educational and legal & judicial outcomes. Some of us Torres Strait Islander peoples have been forced out of our community in the search of higher education, only to find that after completing our studies we cannot return to the Torres Strait community.
