Aviation air demonstrations to showcase sea service capabilities during 2014 Fleet Week New York NORFOLK, VA (NRMA) - In addition to showcasing the worlds largest maritime force, the sea services are scheduled to host a variety of air demonstrations, May 22-27, in celebration of the 2014 Fleet Week New York. Fleet Week New York, now in its 26th year, is the citys time-honored celebration of the sea services. It is an unparalleled opportunity for the citizens of New York and the surrounding tri-state area to meet Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen, as well as witness firsthand the latest capabilities of todays maritime services. The week-long celebration has been held nearly every year since 1984, and it is anticipated that nearly 1,500 Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen will participate this year. Events include: Thursday, May 22nd . 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., Westbury High School, Old Westbury, New York - A combined team of members from the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Five (HSC-5) will present a mine countermeasures demonstration. The demonstration will show how a five-member EOD team can be inserted via a helicopter into a remote area. After the air demonstration, the two MH-60S helicopters will land and be available for display. Navy Band Northeast Rhode Island Sound will be performing live. Event is not open to general public. . 1 p.m. - 2:30 p.m., Glen Cove High School, Glen Cove, New York - U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) aerial demonstration will showcase the latest capabilities of the USMC for school faculty, students and their families. Event is not open to general public. Friday, May 23rd . 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., Sewanhaka High School, Floral Park, New York - USMC aerial demonstration will showcase the latest capabilities of the USMC for school faculty, students and their families. Event is not open to general public. . 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., Curtis High School, Staten Island, New York - A combined team of members from the U.S. Navy EOD team and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Five (HSC-5) will present a mine countermeasures demonstration. The demonstration will show how a five-member EOD team can be inserted via a helicopter into a remote area. After the air demonstration, the two MH-60S helicopters will land and be available for display. Navy Band Northeast Rhode Island Sound will be performing live. Event is not open to general public. . 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., Orchard Beach Park, Bronx, New York - USMC Aviation/Marine Air-Ground Task Force demonstration. Event is free and open to the public. Saturday, May 24th . 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, New York - USMC and USN will display aviation and operational equipment. A combined team of members from the U.S. Navy EOD team and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Five (HSC-5) will present a mine countermeasures demonstration. The demonstration will show how a five-member EOD team can be inserted via a helicopter into a remote area. After the air demonstration, the two MH-60S helicopters will land and be available for display. U.S. Navy Band Northeast Brass Band will perform. Event is free and open to the public. . 12 p.m. - 12:30 p.m., The Sullivans Pier, Staten Island, New York - U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) will conduct a Search and Rescue demonstration in the water off of The Sullivans Pier for visitors to see. Event is free and open to the public. Sunday, May 25th . 12 p.m. - 2 p.m., Randall Park, Freeport, New York (Long Island) - A combined team of members from the U.S. Navy EOD team and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Five (HSC-5) will present a mine countermeasures demonstration. The demonstration will show how a five-member EOD team can be inserted via a helicopter into a remote area. After the air demonstration, the two MH-60S helicopters will land and be available for display. Event is free and open to the public. . 12 p.m. - 12:30 p.m., Pier 92, Manhattan, New York - USCG will conduct a Search and Rescue demonstration in the water off of Pier 92 for visitors to see. Event is free and open to the public. . 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., Rye Playland, Rye, New York - USMC Aviation/Marine Air-Ground Task Force demonstration. Event is free and open to the public. Monday, May 26th . 12 p.m. - 12:30 p.m., Pier 86, Manhattan, New York - USCG will conduct a Search and Rescue demonstration in the water off of Pier 86 for visitors to see. Event is free and open to the public. . 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., Hudson Park, New Rochelle, New York - USMC Aviation/Marine Air-Ground Task Force demonstration. Event is free and open to the public. Tuesday, May 27th . 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., Colts Neck High School, Colts Neck, New Jersey - A combined team of members from the U.S. Navy EOD team and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron Five (HSC-5) will present a mine countermeasures demonstration. The demonstration will show how a five-member EOD team can be inserted via a helicopter into a remote area.
