Award winning photojournalist, author, and USC Journalism Professor, Miki Turner, will kick off “Women’s History Month” with a discussion and book signing of her book “Journey to the Woman I’ve Come to Love at Underground Books in Sacramento on Saturday, March 1st, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm. Journey to the Woman Ive Come to Love, is an empowering and inspirational photo book filled with the affirmations of an incredible group of diverse women answering one question: At what point did you fall in love with yourself? Journey to the Woman Ive Come to Love is a 190-page book, which features stunning black-and-white photos of more than 90 women. It includes celebrities such as Queen Latifah, Angelina Jolie, Halle Berry, Naomi Judd, Gladys Knight, Jenifer Lewis, Sanaa Lathan, Laurel Holloman, Jane Lynch, Dana Delany, Felicity Huffman, Kristin Davis and Della Reese; civil rights icons such as Angela Davis, Myrlie Evers-Williams, Joan Mulholland, Sonia Sanchez, and Diane Nash; she-roes such as Nikki Giovanni, Leymah Gbowee, Gloria Steinem and other extraordinary women whose names you might not know. About Miki Turner: Award-winning photojournalist, author, and USC Journalism Professor, Miki Turner, has been working in the communications industry for more than 30 years, specializing in print, television, radio and new media. Turner is a successful journalist, producer and photographer who has covered sports and entertainment for over two decades. She was the first African-American female to write a regularly featured sports column at a major metropolitan daily (Oakland Tribune). Turner has worked for Jet magazine, ESPN, MSNBC, AOL, BET, NFL Network and several newspapers. Additionally, her work has appeared in Ebony, Essence, Upscale and Arise magazines. Among her career honors are a 1982 CIAA Sportswriter of the Year Award, 1995 National Association of Black Journalists award, two Kodak International Snapshot Awards and two Miller Lite Sports Journalism Awards. Turner received her B.A. degree in mass media arts from Hampton University and a M.S. in journalism from Boston University. In 1989, she was selected as one of 16 fellows at the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education at UC-Berkeley. She is also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
