Awesome fun. Growing up in Alice we pulled some cunning stunts at the Scout Hall at Billygoat hill. About 1976. You should have seen Bob Baldocks face when he saw that we had broken into the Hall during the holidays and put up the steel cabled flying fox. We had secured it to the rocks on the hill at the top with steel slings and used the block-and-tackle with 5 boys pulling to tension it up real good. We greased up the steel trolley, and it went real fast, but there wasnt much room to stop... The trolley hit the bottom shackle at the tree with a shuddering clang. It stopped DEAD and it hurt a lot if you had not let go by then... We learned the hard way that you had to drop and slide past the tree at the bottom with your best baseball slide. There was a bit much blood and pain on the first day, so we wore overalls and gloves, and even uncle Sams leather jacket was popular. Bob made us pull it down, but it was hell fun while it lasted.
