Azziz not recommended for UNLV job The committee will instead recommend Len M. Jessup, the dean of the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona, to succeed acting President Donald D. Snyder, John Kuhlman, of the Nevada System of Higher Education, said in an e-mail Monday night. That recommendation will be voted on by the full board of regents today. The committee had three options Monday: It could recommend a candidate, vote to continue the search or return today for further deliberations. During discussions about Azziz, a consultant quoted the University System of Georgia’s chancellor as saying that a controversy over plans to build an unauthorized $75,000 carport at Azziz’s home was a minor issue and driven by an Augusta newspaper editor who is a thorn in the side of the university. Atlanta-based consultant Jerry Baker quoted Chancellor Hank Huckaby as saying he admired Azziz’s energy and dismissed the controversy over the carport, according to Las Vegas Review-Journal reporter Francis McCabe, who is covering the search committee. The carport was planned without the required university system approval and was first reported by The Augusta Chronicle, Huckaby’s spokesman did not immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment.
